Windows Monitoring
NSClient++
Before you add your Windows servers to nLighten, you should install NSClient++ to make sure that you get as good monitoring as possible.
NSClient++ makes it possible to check data not normally available via the network, such as CPU usage, disk usage, what processes are running and any performance counter of your choice.
The most common checks are automatically detected and setup when you add the host from the Configure Host option in the Setup menu.
You can download the latest NSClient++ from here. A 64-bit version is available here.
NSClient++ is not developed by Net-Defence. It is free to download and use and is a very common monitoring agent used not only by nLighten but by many other monitoring tools.
Installation and Configuration
- First, download the latest NSClient++
- Install the MSI file
- Edit NSC.INI in the NSClient folder in c:\Program Files
- Start the nsclientpp service
- Copy your edited NSC.INI to all your servers
When you edit NSC.INI, you should enable these DLLs by removing the semi colon:
- CheckSystem.dll
- CheckDisk.dll
- NSClientListener.dll
You must also remove the semi colon in the beginning of the line about allowed_hosts, and add the IP address of your nLighten collector to the list.
